HP TouchPad Cheap $99/$149 Deal Back Again - webOS Lives Openly, Even in MRI

We've been calling the HP TouchPad the tablet that would not die, now it looks like webOS won't die either, even when exposed to an MRI.    HP finally make decision about webOS and its fire sale of cheap CPO HP TouchPad tablets.  Doctors have used the webOS platform to help compute and analyze in the MRI process in hospitals.

HP announced today that it will continue to be active in the development and support of webOs by opening it to the "open source community"

In an interview,  Meg Whitman confirmed that there will be more webOS devices in the future, "But we will use webOS in new hardware, but it’s just going to take us a little longer to reorganize the team in a quite different direction than we’ve been taking it in the past.”  She also said that tablets such as the HP TouchPad could be possible.

Meanwhile, we've gotten word the HP TouchPad deal will be back on Sunday at 5:00 PM EST, December 11.  The price will be the famous fire-sale deal of $99 for 16GB and $149.99 for the 32GB TouchPad for a limited supply of refurbished TouchPads. An email sent to employees says:

Kindle Fire to Beat Samsung Galaxy Tab, TouchPad, & Nook in 2012

The  Kindle Fire  is igniting the tablet market and will come in second after the iPad only two weeks after being on the market reported IHS.  The Amazon branded tablet is followed by Samsung Galaxy Tab, Barnes and Noble Nook and HTC tablets.

Starting off with nothing in the third quarter, Amazon will ship 3.9 million Kindle Fire tablets during the last three months of 2011. Previously second place was held by the non-defunct HP TouchPad.  The Kindle Fire 's price of $199.99 contributed to its growth.

HP TouchPad Slated to Court Paperless Tablet Trials - Bogus-Pocus-Focus

HP TouchPAdcourtsThe Guardian reported that judges, jurors and barristers will replace paper documents with tablets with none other than the tablet that would not die the HP TouchPad. The Verge copied  reported that the courts would used the discontinued HP TouchPad with webOS.  Hugh? We had to put this story through our "Bogus Pocus Focus" machine.

The Guardian reported that the courts bought "35 Hewlett-Packard tablets worth up to £1,000 each in preparation for the rollout."

The Guardian did not report if the tablets are webOS TouchPad or HP Slate tablets, although the photograph showed an HP TouchPad tablet.  It was probably a non-technology reporter who wrote the story because HP also makes the Windows-based HP Slate.  The person who picked the photo was not a tech insider either.

TouchPad Déjà Vu $199 BlackBerry PlayBook Sold-Out : Cheap Tablets Needed!

BlackBerry PlayBook Out of stockHere we go round the TouchPad déjà vu, all over again. The BlackBerry PlayBook sale was so much of a success even BlackBerry ran out of the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook when the price went down to $199. The price had been lowered to $299 previously and that didn't catch the eyes of tablet bargain hunters. Now all the online retailers who have the BlackBerry PlayBook sale are showing either out-of-stock or email sign-ups.

Earlier this week, Best Buy mistakenly was taking orders when it did not have the 16GB PlayBook in stock. They say they will have more inventory in the near future.  However, the coveted sales price of $199.99 well end on December 3. We checked and Walmart, Office Depot and RadioShack are all sold-out of the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook.

We have recieved reports from readers that RIM has cancelled pending transactions. We contacted RIM PR rep Shelly Sofer to see what the "official" situation is.

As of today the RIM website has the following message under the 16GB PlayBook:

"Out of Stock We are sorry!! This item is currently out of stock. You can still place a request using Keep Me Posted option. We will get back to you as soon as we receive inventory. " There is a delay in shipping. The RIM website warns "Due to high volume of PlayBook orders, orders may take up to 7 days to ship."
