KIndle FireAmazon.com sold four times as many Kindle products during Black Friday 2011 than last year, the company announced Monday. The Kindle Fire remained the bestselling product across all of Amazon since its introduction. 

Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle said, "We're seeing a lot of customers buying multiple Kindles - one for themselves and others as gifts - we expect this trend to continue..through the holiday shopping season."

In planned tablet buying 65% chose the Apple iPad, 22% said the Amazon Kindle Fire and 4% picked the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

The Kindle Fire is the first mainstream tablet to go below $200. The Amazon Kindle Fire sells for $199  from Amazon.com and other retailers.

Kindle FireWe suspect that Amazon may sell-out of the Kindle Fire over the holidays.  It hasn't sold-out of the Kindle Fire but it is selling very well.  If there isn't another tablet or must-have device to compete with it in time for the holidays, we may have repeat of the original Kindle sell-out.

Amazon sold 95,000 Kindle Fire tablets during the device’s first day of presales according to DataSource. More than 250,000 Kindle Fire tablets have been preordered since Amazon announced it last Wednesday, according to a report from Cult of Android.  It is averaging 50,000 preorders a day since its first day of sale.

Tablet buyers are not just buying a tablet but want an entire ecosystem of content, apps and functionality.  There will be many hurdles to jump, before the price drops down to $199 for full-powered tablets.

In the case of the HP TouchPad, King said “You could buy a Ferrari at a Ford price,” which accounted for the fast sales when the prices of HP TouchPads were  lowered to $99(16GB) and $149(32GB).
