Verizon News: Changes in Plans, Subs and Payments

There are changes afloat at Verizon Wireless official ahat may show how T-Mobile's new cheaper un-carrier plans' influence on plans, end of discounts and subsidies. Verizon will over one-year payments plans for some devices starting April 21.

End of Life for Shared Non-Phone Upgrades and Every Two, Too

Verizon wireless spokeswoman, Brenda Raney announced today that Verizon Wireless has changed its upgrade eligibility.  Customers on a two-year agreement will be eligible for an upgrade at 24 months versus the current eligibility of 20 months.

Verizon vs AT&T LTE TestsWe've been watching the latest commercial for Verizon LTE "hiking" claiming that the network is "astonishing." MetroPCS calls its data 4G LTE. While AT&T does not advertise its speed. Which is really the fastest? What do real speed tests show? Which is the best for you? (video follows).

OpenSignal has an app that shows download and upload speeds.  We ran tests indoors with a Samsung Galaxy S III on the AT&T network and Droid RAZR MAXX HD on the Verizon 4G LTE network along with a standard dual-core Motorola Atrix using a Wi-Fi connection.

Verizon UpgradeYou may be paying a lot more for your smartphone in the future that could be devoid of subisidies.  T-Mobile has been slowly decreasing it subsidies and is expect to stop them all togethter later this month.

Those who want to keep their unlimited data at Verizon have had to pay full prices, since last summer.  Verizon CFO Fran Shammo expects subsides to decline.

“I’m a believer that over the next two to three years subsidies will start to decrease just because of the ecosystems,” Fran Shammo said at the Deutsche Bank 2013 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference.
