More iPhone information from CNET iPhone 3G FAQ by Kent German
People who bought an iPhone last year and upgrade to an iPhone 3G can't use another SIM or give the phone to a buddy to activate it on AT&T.
According to Mark Siegel @ ATT
- Once an iPhone user activates service for an iPhone 3G,
their first-generation handset will be unusable as a phone. Another AT&T SIM card won't make it work. - You can't buy an old iPhone on eBay and
expect to activate it on AT&T's network. - The old iPhone can be used as
a media player and a Wi-Fi device for browsing the web.
Because phones contain precious and caustic metals, we' don't suggest you bury the old iPhone at sea or even in the ground. Funeral or memorial services, however, are to be given at the owner's discretion. Be sure to book your room and caterer before the July 11th onslaught.
