The Salvation Army will be offering the ability to text message donations in Atlanta and Columbus.
Starting in two weeks at Thanksgiving time in Atlanta, cell phone users can
text message "TSA"--to 90999 and
a $5 donation will be added to their phone bill.
The number will
be posted on signs alongside the familiar shiny red kettles.
"Society
in general carries less cash," James Seiler, commander of the Metro Atlanta Area Salvation Army said, "It enables people who want to
help, who want to support, to hit a few quick buttons on the telephone."
There is also a pilot program in Columbus Ohio.
