Nokia E71x Rated 4 out 5 by Wireless and Mobile News Review of Reviews

The Nokia E71x is a world smartphone, full of bells and whistles for a great price.  Reviewers all wrote that the push email and business functions are great for the Nokia E71x. It has 3G access, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 3.2 megapixel camera that shoots video.

The Nokia E71x is very thin with a QWERTY keyboard and Quickoffice allows users to
create and view MS Office documents. You can even make a quick PowerPoint
presentation on the fly. Although one reviewer had trouble getting the
GPS to work, others liked it, and one suggested supplementing AT&T
Navigator with Google Maps for walking directions. The camera
takes good photos outdoors, the colors were, however, not good.

All reviewers, we reviewed, found the call quality to be good on the Nokia E71x. They liked the music player and video functions but did not like that the headset jack was the non-standard 2.5 mm. The Nokia E71x worked fined as a tethered modem.

The screen is smaller than the iPhone but was still called beautiful. One reviewer called the performance of the Nokia E71x superb.

We did some research on the AT&T website and asked an online sales rep to discover that the Nokia E71x does not like the iPhone or some other messaging phone deal packages required a data plan. Therefore if you have access to Wi-Fi often you can save over other plans. There is however, a charge of  $0.02 per KB which will add up quickly.

Bonnie Cha at CNET called the Nokia E71x an incredible value for business users looking for a messaging smartphone. She rated it 3.5 out of 5. The Nokia EX71 is great value when compared to the Samsung Epix and BlackBerry Bold. Call quality was good and the speaker phone was decent. 3G speeds were good and "painless." Audio was rich, but she wised that regular headphones could be used (the jack is 2.5mm.) Video was smooth. Photo coloring wasn't very good. She only experienced problems with the GPS which couldn't get a location at first.

Sacha Segan at PCMag wrote because of the price, it is the best smartphone deal right now. The classy-looking phone has excellent email and web for a cheaper price. He rated it 4 out of 5. The Nokia E71x1 is one the phones he carries most often. The performance is "superb." It is fast and syncs easily. He got DSL speeds using it as a tethered modem. He also doesn't like the headset jack is 2.5mm. The email shines with MS Exchange. Push email does  drain battery life. XpressMail is text-only and handles POP IMAP AOL, Hotmail, Gmail, MobileMe, and Yahoo. GPS maps lacked walking directions. AT&T TV is blocky, MobiTV costs extra but works better. mSpot works great. The Nokia E71x has better voice than the iPhone. It has better web and MS Exchange support than the BlackBerry Bold.

Todd Haselton at LaptopMag rated the Nokia E71x 4 out of 5. He calls the smartphone impressive. It is thinner than the BlackBerry Bold or BlackJackII and thinnest in the U.S. The screen is beautiful. The keyboard is comfortable but a the keys are a little close together. Email was easy to setup and autocomplete email worked well in tests. Quickoffice for reading and creating MS Office files was a cinch to use and PDF files could be opened too. The fast browser was good but lacked Flash support. AT&T TeleNav worked well. The camera only took good outdoor shots where there was plenty of light. Video played well on the phone. Call quality was good but listeners on the other end heard hissing. Battery life was stellar. It is a great bargain smartphone chock-full of features.
