The whole HP TouchPad story could be a tragedy or comedy, depending how you look at it. Right now it could considered a comedy of errors or a tragedy of lust, greed and power (if you can't find a cheap $99 TouchPad) The story flips and flops constantly with no consistency.
While developers are coding tyring to hack webOS to run anything Android, some HP TouchPads (3 reported) were sold with Android installed. "We presently believe that some person or persons unknown may have facilitated the delivery of these Android-based units strictly against the policy and authorization of HP," was posted by Phil Robb, director of HP's open-source program.
When asked for the code Robb responded:
"...Regarding your specific request for source code below, I must decline at the present time. HP has never authorized the distribution of any binaries for Android in association with the HP Touchpad. Therefore, HP is not under any license obligation to provide any corresponding Android source code to you. "
Therefore the bad news continues for HP TouchPad buyers. Yesterday, we learned that the 32GB HP TouchPad was available for $299 at Fingerhut that could down to $239.99.
HP employees, last week, were able to buy HP TouchPads for the incredibly low price of $99 or $149, last week. The HP shopping site is now showing the he 32GB TouchPad for $249.99 and 16GB for $219.99 as out of stock.
