While HP was planning to decide the fate of the HP PC division there was more webOS news, liquidation sales, contest and a new hack.
The Palm HP liquidation continued, last week, with the closing of HP Palm retail stores. The retail stores in upscale malls cleared out inventory at rock bottom prices. There were no HP TouchPads on hand but you could still get one for free if you enter a Facebook contest where you could win a new TouchPad signed by Hugh Jackman.
The retails stores that are now closed, were selling the Black Veer for $50, HP Pixi for $25 or $15 for 4 or more, and the original Palm Touchstone was $2.50.
The TouchPad Promotion is for the Real Steel and it may remind HP TouchPad buyers that the HP TouchPad was a "real-steal" when it went for $99. It looks like HP has paid for product placement in the movie. All you have to do to enter to win an HP TouchPad is to like HP on Facebook.
Hackers are close to getting Android 2.3 to run on the HP TouchPad, but it is tricky to load and still in the Alpha phase of development. The CyanogenMod 7.hack will alow for the viewing of Netflix (video follows).
There were some TouchPads reportedly shipped with Android installed. The 32GB HP TouchPad was available for $299 at Fingerhut that could go down to $239.99.
We checked the HP Shopping website today and couldn't find any sales pages for the HP TouchPad it may never make another comeback. The HP TouchPad landing page does still say "We are unfortunately sold out at this time, however a limited supply of units will be made available in the coming weeks and months."
I still love my Palm Pre. And the TouchPad is by far the coolest looking tablet out there
