Samsung Galaxy S III News: Review of Rumors, Specs, Speculations Plus Release

Samsung Galaxy S IIIEveryone wants to know what Samsung will be up to at Mobile World Congress (MWC), as rumors fly faster than a quad-core processor, we have rounded up the latest news about the next round of Samsung releases including the Samsung Galaxy S III that was supposed to be announced at MWC.

Samsung confirmed that they would not reveal the Samsung Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress, still there are new Samsung smartphones that may be displayed.  Samsung in 2011 was the top smarpthone maker, selling one million smartphones more than iPhones.  We can expect many more innovations this year.  The Samsung Galaxy S II was the named the top best smartphone of 2011 by numerous reviewers.

In general, the consensus  about what is coming form Samsung is that touchscreens will be Super AMOLED Plus/huge, the operating system will be Android 4.0 or Bada and the look will be TouchWiz. Where rumors don't jell is what kind of processor new Samsung smartphones will have, many wish for a quad-core processor, which would really heat up the competition.  Others contend the processors will be faster versions of dual-core processors.

Let's look at what is being reported about the Samsung Galaxy S III. Launch dates for international versions could be in April.  The leaked and speculated specs include:

  • Quad-core Exynos processor or dual-core 1.8GHz processor
  • Super AMOLED Plus 720p touchscreen. Most likely at 4.6"or greater.
  • 4G LTE radio.
  • 2GB of RAM.
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
  • Gorilla Glass 1 or 2.
  • TouchWiz UI v.40.
  • microSD slot
  • 16/32GB internal storage.
  • 12MP camera, plus 2MP front-facing camera.
  • Previous rumors suggested a 3d aspect.

A mystery Samsung Galaxy Unknown was leaked that showed a white Samsung smartphone without buttons that suggests it will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Many believe it is not a Samsung Galaxy S III because Samsung has pulled Samsung Galaxy S III events from MWC. Others believe the photo was obviously a fake due to they way the screen renders Android 4.0

The  Samsung Galaxy S II Plus could be the aforementioned leaked Samsung Smartphone with possibly Android 2.3, 800x400 resolutions touchscreen 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

The  Samsung Galaxy S Advance (GT-i9070) that cleared the FCC, that some thought was a Chinese version of the Samsung Galaxy S II  world roaming, however it has the exact same model number of the Samsung Galaxy S III

As we have noticed before the whole Samsung naming system is very confusing.  T-Mobile will have a Samsung Galaxy S Blaze capable of 42mbps, with specs similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II.  Then there is the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's like having a family of children and all of them have the same first name but different middle names and personalities. U.S. Cellular announced the Samsung Galaxy S Aviator.

Maybe Galaxy is a great name for the Samsung smartphones because there are so many stars in the Samsung Galaxy, no one can remember all the names, where they are and what they do.

Apple, however, has kept is naming simple, iPhone a number and a letter.  They are all on the same planet and are remembered as such.
