Sony is going solo with unlocked phones sans carrier for the United States. It currently offers the Xperia S, P and sola handsets in the United States. The company today also confirmed the availability of the Xperia U in the US Sony Store for $299.99. The handset is available in black/pink, black/white and white/yellow colors.
Currently, the Sony Xperia Ion is being sold by AT&T, it ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which even with its super camera and excellent connections to Sony HD TVs can be percieved as a problem.
Sony has promised that these new models will be updated to Android 4.0 ICS.
Features of the $299.99 Sony Xperia U include 3.5" touchscreen, 5MP camera, HD ,1GHz STE U8500 dual-core processor, and 512MB RAM with up to 8GB of internal storage.
The $ 599.99 Xperia S features a 4.3-in. HD, 12-megapixel camera, 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 Dual Core processor, NFC-ready, 1GB of RAM and up to 32 GB of internal storage.
The $479.99 Xperia P features a 4"960-x-540-pixel touchscreen 8MP camera,1GHz STE U8500 dual-core processor, NFC, 1GB RAM with up to 16 GB of internal storage.
