AT CTIA Brad Shewmake gave a bath and shower to the Kyocera Edge and XTRM, two new rugged water proof phones on U.S. Cellular and Sprint, respectively.
The Hydro XTRM costs $29.99 from U.S. Cellular is water proof and shock resistant. The XTRM features 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), 4" impact-resistant IPS touchscreen, 5MP camera and 1.3MP front camera.
The Hydro Edge will be available from Boost Mobile and Sprint in the summer. It is waterproof and dust-proof. It features Smart Sonic Receiver, 1GHZ dual-core processor, Android 4.1, 4" impact resistant screen and 5MP camera. Most likely it will priced about the same as the Kyocera Hydro $129.99.
For both models, there is no speaker necessary for the ear to hear because the Smart Sonic Receiver uses a ceramic transducer to transmit sound to the tissue in your ears. It makes audio clearer especially for people who are hard of hearing.
Both Hydro models can be submerged into one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. You can't operate screen while it is wet, the water is conductive and the screen can't read the electro magnetic energy from your fingers.
