We've been expecting a Droid 2 announcement very soon. We were so busy reporting Verizon's top tips for the Droid X with the hopes, they would work for the Droid 2 too, we did not open up our local newspaper to see the first Verizon ad for the Droid 2 with a "Coming Soon."

UPDATE 8/10/10: The Droid 2 has been officially announced and will be available for pre-sale 8/11 on the Verizon website. A nice added bonus is that Verizon customers with contracts ending any time before 12/31/2010 are eligible for an upgrade without penalty. Better get your mouses running to Verizon website at the break of August 11.

The ad says "Rule Your Empire with Iron Thumbs. Introducing the Droid 2 with a new advanced keyboard," It all says "Droid 2, coming soon"(Click on the image to see it in full size.)

On the Best Buy front, a Best Buy Customer in North Carolina took a picture of a pre-mature born Droid 2 dummy unit with a price tag of $199 with a contract or $599 without a contract.

Droid smartphones continue to sell-out. The original Droid by Motorola is "Out-of-Stock," the Droid Incredible will not ship until 8/10 and the Droid X is not shipping unitl 8/25, on the Verizon website.

In the last rounds of Verizon, Droid sales they sold-out within a day or two. There have been reports that this time there will be an pre-sale of the Droid X starting Wednesday, August 11 on the Verizon website.

Droid 2 specs are as expected to include Android 2.2 FroYo, 1GHz processor, 8GB onboard memory, an 8GB microSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.7 touchscreen and pre-installed with Verizon apps, Skype Mobile, NFL Mobile, City ID and 3G Mobile Hotspot.

vOther features we found in the leaked manual were more more MOTOBLUR social networking features, BlockBuster Video, DLNA, and photo sharing features along with SWYPE.
