This week has been a great week for Droid fans. We finally know that the Droid Bionic will be out tomorrow and two iconic Droid smartphones are getting an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Owners who bought the Droid Incredible with Android 2.2 Froyo are now getting an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Along with glitch fixes, users will be able to send MMS correctly, save audio MMS messages, send Vcard via SMS, connect to the Internet with Bluetooth and operate Verizon navigator over Wi-Fi.
Other features of the update include the ability to change songs in the Music widget by tapping the forward button and the camera will work successfully without inserting SD card.
The list of features in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update are impressive, with the addition of download manager, active app management, shortcuts, one-touch copy/paste, widgets, icons, app groups, updated calendar options, camera geotagging, improved email synching, and camera auto-focus improvements. The software update size is 87.8 MB and will take approximately 7-12 minutes to download and 8-12 minutes to update.
You will be notified that a system update is available on your device. Pull down the Notification Bar and touch the "System update available" notification. Tap Download to begin.
If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear.
We checked on a Droid Incredible and were not able to download the update manually. The Droid Incredible support page has not been updated, therefore all we can do is wait.
