Samsung Galaxy NexusSamsung is dominating the news with its new Samsung Galaxy Nexus, smartphone sales, sign-up page and patent battles. The Samsung philosphy is based on being the most innovative to be the most successful and meeting the needs of customers.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus(formerly known as the Nexus Prime) has a sign-up page for notifications from Google.  The drop-down menu for carrier information shows AT&T, Cellular South, Metro PCS, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon. This menu has led to speculation that you eventually be able to buy a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for all of the aforementioned carriers.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a "pure Google" smartphone with a 4.65" touchscreen and 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP4460  processor, expected to go on sale in November.

Samsung was the top smartphone seller in the third quarter of this year and shipped more than 20 million smartphones beating out Apple's 17.1 million iPhones and  Nokia  in the same quarter according to some reports.  Many of the Samsung smartphone were the Samsung Galaxy S II.

At the AsiaD conference in Hong Kong,  Samsung's Won-Pyo Hong in an interview Walter Mossberg  touched on some interesting industry points.  Here's a summary of some of the things he said:

  • We believe different segments of the space will buy a 4.65" smartphone.
  • The price of smartphones is decided by the operators.
  • We need to protect our intellectual property rights, we file patents and are a leading patent holder.
  • Compared to last year our tablets are doing better.
  • When asked about supplying Apple with components, he says "there are many companies  that we have multidimensional relationships with.  We welcome the innovation and competition. Judgement will be made by the consumers.  We focus on our customers."
  • In regards to Google purchase of Motorola, "We respect their decision and objective to protect Android ecosystem/patents."
  • The best thing we should do is keep innovation, to stay ahead of the competition.  We are confident that we can do that.

Apple sued Samsung and blocked Samsung Galaxy Tab sales in Europe.  There are new lawsuits frequently.
