It has been a great week for Verizon wireless 4G LTE smartphone upgrades to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The new update for the HTC ThunderBolt started rolling out last week and now it appears the LG Revolution is getting the Android makeover with some glitch fixes. The update is Version: VS910. Generally updates are sent out in small lots first and then expand to larger coverage, over time.
The list of features in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update are impressive, with the addition of download manager, active app management, shortcuts, one-touch copy/paste, widgets, icons, app groups, updated calendar options, camera geotagging, improved email synching, and camera auto-focus improvements. Read Gingerbread tips.
Glitch fixes include updates to the email folder, Exchange attachments, SIM message storage, "Out-of-Office" settings, better shaped cursor, list menu issue, HDMI cable, and data in Airplane mode
You will either receive a notice that the update is available or you can check from the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Check New. If your LG Revolution finds a new software update, a screen will appear advising you. Tap OK.
It will take you approximately 20 to 45 minutes to download the software, depending on network conditions.
Once you download the software, the next step is to install . Installation should take up to 5-10 minutes additional. Keep in mind that during the installation you will be unable to make or receive calls, including emergency calls.
Note: The size for this software upgrade is 87.8 MB.
If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear.
Here's the List of Changes:
- The cursor has been reshaped for easier text editing.
- List menu force close issue has been resolved.
- Issues have been fixed involving proper connectivity through the HDMI cable.
- Data now works correctly when toggling in Airplane mode.
- Email folders will now display in the correct order.
- The maximum attachment size is now set correctly, even when the Exchange service is configured with unlimited size attachments.
- Messages can now be stored on the SIM card. View these messages
through the Settings menu, “Manage SIM card messages.” - Correctly set Out of Office without having to set a start or end time.
- The popup message asking to delete accounts when changing the SIM card now displays correctly.
I tried to update my LG Revolution with the Gingerbread update but it would not install. I called Verizon customer support and after a long session they were not able to help me. They were nice and tried, but it appears LG software is designed in a way that makes updates difficult if not impossible. A replacement phone is being sent to me.
My revolution started the update. Downloaded fine and installed fine but now my phone keeps turning off and on constantly and wont stop. Its been doing it for 5+ hours now and I dont know what to do. Help?
Your best bet is to call Verizon support. Sometimes updates don't download properly and have to be reinstalled.
My phone just updated itself last night and there are a few visual changes along with the ones listed. I can already tell the phone is working better and much more hassle free.
My lg updated over night and I can already tell a huge difference. The phone will now stay charged, where as I used to have to carry my charger. I have had my phone off the charger for 6hrs now and i have more than half of my battery. Great update!!!
