On the release date of the first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Samsung smartphone the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the United Kingdom, we get some very encouraging news from Samsung friends across the pond. The Samsung U.K. Twitter feed revealed that the Samsung Galaxy SII will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Samsung U.K. Tweeted "Hi, good news - the Galaxy S II will be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet. We will keep you posted"
In the past, news of the updates for the Samsung Galaxy S I came first from the U.K. then the United States followed. It usually takes longer for the upgrade because the carriers test and add-on their own software. For example, Samsung Galaxy S owners in the U.K. received the update to Froyo in late November 2010. The updates were not pushed out until January and February 2011 for the Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Epic 4G and Samsung Captivate.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich combines tablet and smartphone functions and adds advanced features to Android such as face unlock, multitasking, panoramic camera, beaming and NFC(see all features).
Other popular smartphone makers have announced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates, Sony Xperia, HTC, Motorola and Samsung Italy.
