When the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate was updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Captivate owners were very disappointed, now they can enjoy Gingerbread features. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade is finally available for the Samsung Captivate (SGH-i897).
The Samsung Galaxy Captivate was one of the top best smartphones of the year, for AT&T in 2010. It has been replaced by the Samsung Galaxy S II at AT&T as the top smartphone of the year by Wireless and Mobile News top best final list.
To update the Captivate, you will have download and install Kies Mini using your Windows PC. Samsung warns that you should be sure that all data has been backed-up before applying this upgrade. Currently, there is no support at this time for Apple computers.
Features of the update include, fixed top-menu in Gmail and voice search added into the search categories. There are also game enhancements for with 3D driver updates, better multimedia performance and concurrent garbage Collector technology imbedded to reduce lags in playing games.
The list of features in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update are impressive, with the addition of download manager, active app management, shortcuts, one-touch copy/paste, widgets, icons, app groups, updated calendar options, camera geotagging, improved email synching, and camera auto-focus improvements. The upgrade process must be completed twice if your Captivate is currently running Android Eclair 2.1. Don't take your Captivate to an AT&T store, they don't have the ability to complete the update. Kies Mini will automatically upgrade to KK4 form any previously released software.
