BN Nook Beats Kindle Fire with Price & Specs?

NookBarnes and Noble announced the new NOOK with 8GB for $199.99 in order to match the Kindle Fire price.  Last year's Nook Color is now discounted to $169.99

The Barnes & Noble 16GB Nook  is $50 less than the 16GB $249.99 model an added benefit is that it has a microSD slot which the Kindle Fire does not have.  The Nook requires as proprietary charger that does not work with a universal USB charger.

Specs of the Nook include 512MB of RAM the same features also available on Nook Tablet 16GB ($249):

  • 1GHz dual-core processor for streaming video and lightning-fast Web browsing so customers can surf their favorite sites, and built-in email to stay easily connected with friends and family.
  • Battery life of 11.5 hours of reading time or nine hours of video viewing.
  • With on-board storage plus microSD memory expansion allow storage space for their reading and entertainment content, regardless of Wi-Fi availability
  • VividView touchscreen for viewing content.

 The Kindle Fire offers Amazon movies to watch vidoes while the Nook offers movies, TV shows and music from services including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Flixster, Pandora, Rhapsody, Grooveshark and MOG.
