Yesterday, T-Mobile showed how its 4G smartphones were cheaper and faster than the iPhone 4S on any network. We don't know when the iPhone will be connected to 4G networks, however, FreedomPop is taking a stab at giving iPhones 4G access with a sleeve that pumps up the data volume for free.
Of course, it is difficult to buy a new iPhone 4S without a data plan at a cheap rate but those with hand-me-down iPhone 4S models or jailbroken ones could get a free ride up to 1MB.
FreedomPop on Thursday began taking preorders for an add-on case with extra battery juice that gives the iPhone 4G data as fast as 8MB downs 3MB update for free after the purchase price of the case for $99.00. They claim that the service will deliver:
- 4G on your iPhone - up to 15x faster than 3G.
- Up to 1GB FREE broadband with an overage charge of once-cent per megabyte.
- 100% FREE Wi-Fi or up to 8 devices.
- Extend iPhone's battery life up to 6 hours.
- Use Apple's FaceTime wherever you go.
The company, which is backed by Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom is still its beta phase of development.
FreedomPop partnered with 4G WiMAX from Clearwire. It has been reported that extra data will cost one-cent a megabyte. FreedomPop is expected to go live on July 1. It is not clear, yet how the free data model will work and how sleeve owners will get more data from advertising, marketing or other models.
