JB Update - No Going Back?

Google is delivering an update to the Nexus 7 which a minor upgrade with one major features change.

The update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 for the  Nexus 7 users set the homepage to landscape mode and makes it run smoother and faster. Once you update your Nexus 7 you will not be able to run Jelly Bean 4.1 again. The build number is JZO54K, and the tag is android-4.1.2_r1.

Jelly Bean 4.1.2 also  fixes some bugs. To check for the update go to Settings > About device > Software updates and tap to ch for updates.

Update 10/15/2012: The Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S are starting to get the update to Android 4.1.2 over the air.

10.1 Nexus Tablet- Pixel and Feature Packed?

In other Nexus news, the rumors of a Nexus 10.1 tablet persist.  However the latest reports suggest not a holiday release date but Q1, 2013.  The tablet suspected to made by Samsung will display a cutting-edge pixel-packed display to best the iPad. The Nexus 10.1 with a 2560x1600 pixel screen at 299ppi will best the new iPad's 264ppi.

Other reported features of the Nexus 10.1 are the same of better than the well-reviewed Nexus 7, a quad-core processor, Wi-Fi, Corning Glass, GPS, Wi-Fi, Android Jelly Bean, microUSB, NFC and  landscape-capable homescreen. Many are hoping for an HDMI connection, double Wi-Fi antenna and speakers.

More GB for Your Buck

There have also been reports that Google and Asus will offer a 32 GB Nexus 7 tablet. Although the Nexus 7 has gotten great reviews, it lacks a microSD slot for increasing storage. 32GB models were seen in inventory systems.  The estimated price for the 32GB Nexus 7 is around $249.99, the current price for the Nexus 7 16GB model.

What's the Deal with Nexus #?

The first Nexus device was the Nexus One smartphone made by HTC. The next three devices contained the makers names and letters.  With the start of the Nexus 7 the device name was related to the screen size.  However, now there are rumors of an LG Optimus Nexus 4 smartphone by LG.

Black Friday Deals?

There were also rumors of a cheaper 7" Nexus 7 for $99 in time for the holidays. So what's a tablet buyer to do?

We expect that there will be some great tablet deals starting on Black Friday into the holidays.  We'll keep you posted, like we did in previously years, with the best Black Friday deals around.

We're at the point that we can use more than one tablet for each task. The Nexus 7 for book reading and the Nexus 10 for video watching and more. Long life the new next Nexus!

Google keeps claiming that Nexus devices will be updated quickly, but they don't update them as soon as they can.

If they sell the 32GB for the price of 16GB they should give us 16GB buyers a rebate.

Um, in that case, I'd like a rebate on virtually every piece of technology I've ever bought.

I wouldn't buy any 10 inch table without double speakers and an HDMI connection. It must have a microSD card slot so that I can swap out data/music etc.

There was never a better deal than the HP TouchPad fire sale. $99 is what a 9inch tablet should cost before you don't mind losing it or dropping it at a coffee house.

The number scheme is better but it then when you add HD and other information it gets crazy. What happens when there is more than one kind of Nexus 7?

I would like a tablet that when you drop it, it doesn't break. I dropped my iPad and cried for days.
