Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Scores High Notes @ Brussels Philharmonic

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 OrchestraThe Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has been deployed in classrooms and now on music stands.  The sheet music for the Brussels Philharmonic orchestra has been replaced with Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.

Samsung  gave each of the hundred musicians a Galaxy Note 10.1 with NeoScores software installed. Orchestra members can make their own notes  or highlight pasages with the S Pen. The Smart Stay feature keeps the screen lit while the musicians are looking at it.

The S Pen can also be used  change the sheet music and share it between members. Previously staff spent several hours a day preparing and copying sheet music, using the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and software saves that time. It also saves on paper cost.

NeoScores is Belgian software company that develops software specifically aimed at orchestras.

The GALAXY Note 10.1 has 16 GB  storage that can store 1000 digital pages of sheet music and use several programs at the same time. Multiscreen allows the use two applications side-by-side.  AllShare Cast lets user share content with a computer or TV.

Since recording software already exists on the Android platform and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has a microphone it would be possible for the musicians to record music as well.  The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has a front-facing camera, if someone was at home sick, he/she could watch via a Google+ hangout.

Samsung reported that they can flip the page on their sheet music with a secured swipe, which prevents them from accidentally skipping 10 pages or zooming.  We are also wondering if gestures could be programmed to make page turning automatic or via a simple gesture. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 would also not blow in the wind during outdoor concerts.

NeoScores is web-based device-neutral HTML5  product available across platforms.
