iPhone users with unlocked iPhones using an T-Mobile SIM car are getting an update while connected to a computer using iTunes. An over-the-update will not be released until April 12. The most popular feature of the update is that it will enable T-Mobile LTE on unlocked iPhone 5's. The iPhone 5 will be available directly from T-Mobile on April 12, preorders went live today.
The update adds, HD Voice (iPhone 5 only) Visual Voicemail, 4G network indicator and Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) . The spectrum compatibility with AWS LTE (T-Mobile and officially unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 only). The upgrade also improves battery life as a result of network/device optimization.
In order to complete the update you need a T-Mobile iPhone or any officially unlocked GSM iPhone that does not have jaibroken software and latest iOS software (6.1.3)
Make sure that your battery is at least 50% battery life or connected to a power source and have at least 1 MB available memory (File size of update is ~10 KB) free.
T-Mobile announced its un-carrier plans with unlimited text and voice, as well non-subsidized phones. The most recent commercial replaces the pink T-Mobile gal with cowboys.
How to update over iTunes.
- Connect your iPhone to a computer with a USB cable running iTunes.
- Select device in iTunes.
- Click "Check for Update" in the Summary pane to check for available updates.
- If an update is available, iTunes prompts you to download and install the update. Do not disconnect your iPhone until the update has finished.
