Asus Transformer Prime News: Back-in-Stock Deals, Updates & Tools

We called the HP TouchPad the ImmortaPad, what should we call the Asus Transformer Prime? The tablet that would be a netbook? The Backorder Quad-Core Wonder? Whatever you call it the Asus Transformer Prime is über popular due to its specs and continued care by Asus to updating, adapting and support. They are hard to find, but we found some places with stock and once you get one you can update it and or unlock it at your own risk.

The Asus Transformer Prime was the first tablet to be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is the first quad-core tablet on the market.

Amazon appears to have a gray market for Asus Transformer Prime tablets from partners who jack up the price or you can wait a few weeks to get an Asus Transformer Prime delivered when you buy directly from Amazon, Office Depot has them back in stock while the stock at Walmart.com and Best Buy is sold-out online as of this writing. We have been not been able to find one discounted below the list price.

Cheaper AsusTransformer Prime Specs?

New reported leaks suggest that the next Transformer Prime the TF300T will be priced at $399.99 with a slightly slower 1.2 GHz quad-core processor than the original Asus Transformer Prime. Like fast food, it's cheaper but also fatter.

The Asus Memo 370T was announced at CES and will be 7" quad-core tablet for $249.99. A more powerful Asus Transformer Prime 700 was also introduced.

The Asus Transformer Prime was the first tablet to be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is the first quad-core tablet to continually sell-out. It's so sold-out that gray-marketers are selling the amethyst gray tablets for above the base MSRP price.

We're still catching up on CES awards and products, while our friends who attended CES are still recovering. The Asus Padfone was selected as a Best of Innovations honoree in the Wireless Handsets category.

It's kind of like a mini Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the Asus Transformer Prime turns a tablet into a notebook computer. The Asus Padfone turns a smartphone into tablet. In fact, they are related because the both run quad-core Tegra 3 processors.

Asus Transformer Primed with GPS Fix Update While Far Wi-Fi Fizzles

The Asus Transformer Prime sometimes has GPS and sometimes doesn't due to the metal case. Asus pulled the GPS function from sales materials. Now there in an update that is supposed to help the GPS issues. Meanwhile, this dual-core tablet that transforms into a netbook continues to sell-out.

The update is rolling out in phases but is downloadable from the Asus website. The software updates the GPS driver to version 6.9.13. Some early adopters have reported that the update helps with GPS issues while others are still having problems getting exact GPS locations.
