We're getting all the activation numbers around iPhone sales at the major carriers. Yesterday, AT&T and Apple announced sales numbers. Today we look at Verizon Wireless and Sprint which both slowed. Which may leave an opening for sales of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 which will be released in the next few weeks.
Verizon Wireless activated 4 million iPhones over the first three months of 2013, 2.2 million fewer than the 6.2 million it sold between September and December 2012. Total smartphones sold were 7.2 million making the iPhone share at 55% down from 63% in the last quarter on 2012. In the last quarter of 2012 Verizon had 9.8 million new smartphone activations of which 6.2 million were iPhones. Verizon smartphone penetration in Q1 2013 is at 61%.
