Without any firm announcements from Verizon, after the release of the coveted Droid Bionic, the next most beloved suspects for smartphone stardom coming from Verizon Wireless are the Nexus Prime and the HTC Vigor. How does the Nexus Prime compare vs. the HTC Vigor?
The HTC Vigor is supposed to be the successor to the HTC ThunderBolt, while the Nexus(Droid) Prime is called the successor to the Samsung Droid Charge.
Note: The HTC Vigor may also be called the HTC Rezound, (trademarked). We just found new information on the Samsung Stratosphere, expected to come out next week.
So far, neither of the super LTE smartphones have been announced, however, most of their specs have been speculated. The new dual-core processors are so fast they will be very close.
It will come down to preferences of HTC Sense or Samsung Super AMOLED screen, very similar to the choice between the HTC ThunderBolt and Samsung Droid Charge (read comparison). Music lovers may choose the HTC Rezound for Beats audio.
Current suspected specs of the Droid Nexus Prime are a 4.65" (1280x720) Super AMOLED curved touchscreen, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 5MP camera, front camera, LTE, HSPA, Wi-Fi, NFC, 1750mAh battery, 9.9 mm-thin and Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.
Current suspected specs of the HTC Vigor include Dr. Dre Beats audio, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and Verizon 4G LTE data access. It also has a 4.3-4.5" HD touchscreen, 8MP camera, front-facing camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. We know for sure that it will have Bluetooth because Verizon's website shows accessories for the HTC Vigor.
If you were to compare either of these super dual-core smartphones to the phone you had a few years ago both would be excellent choices. Now you have a choice between two sports cars(Porsche & Corvette?) you can decide which style you prefer.
The HTC ThunderBolt is the most popular 4G LTE smartphone on the Verizon 4G LTE network, but has had battery issues.
Recently, HTC tweeted about our HTC EVO 3D, HTC Sensation 4G and myTouch 4G Slide battery-life-saving article which made it one of the most-read articles for that week. The 4G LTE network access draws a lot of battery juice and hopefully the HTC Vigor will have better battery life.
The HTC Vigor which looks and acts a lot like the HTC Amaze a super-camera 1.5GHz dual-core powerhouse due from T-Mobile.
I'm sorry but there is no comparison between the both. The only thing the HTC has going for it is the processor and the camera, besides that, it doesn't compare to the Nexus Prime.
It doesn't compare because.... Oh ya, the Vigor has a slightly smaller screen, a better sound chip, a higher resolution 8mp camera, a bigger battery and oh yeah a faster processor. So the vigor will be running gingerbread with sense 3.5, and the galaxy nexus will run the first ice cream sandwich 4.0 for now!
Honestly who cares? Ice cream sandwich 4.0 will be available to other phones by December or so, and if that's the only reason to buy a phone, that my friend is not be best decision making process for a big investment. Especially if the new OS has bugs that need to be patched, because it will drain your batter even more. But according to that logic, the Vigor doesn't compare at all!
Everyone seems to forget that the extra screen space will be used for virtual buttons. That makes the screens equal in size (4.3 inch effective viewing diagonal), but the Prime wastes pixels to create buttons. Ultimately, the pixel density of the Prime will be 319 DPI while Vigor's will be in the range of >330 DPI (Apple's Retina Display has a pixel density of 326 DPI). All of the other specs on Vigor seem to outshine the Prime.
As for ICS, I wouldn't bank on Nexus phones always being the first to get updated now that Google has Motorola to use as their test phones. I think there's too much changing in the phone world to throw around words like "always," "never," and "best." This stuff just changes way to fast.
nexus devices no matter what hardware still get the updates from google as soon as they are released compared to these powerhouse phones that are amazing spec. wise but they're stuck on the same firmware for 7 months to a year depending what your device's manufacturer is. but i prefer nexus devices that are always updated. even the nexus one which was released with android 2.1 is up to android 2.3.6.
The BGR specs for the Prime are bogus. The trouble I have with HTC is that it has a security vulnerability and who knows when they will fix it. Its also got Sense and the usual carrier bloatware where the Prime won't. I'll wait for the Prime.
