Tonight, Verizon Wireless will add 4G LTE networks in four new metros that will have the incentive of the Droid RAZR  and RAZR MAXX buy-one-get-one free deal as well as double data.

Verizon claims that 200 million people in 196 markets across the United States can take advantage of the Verizon’s 4G LTE network with a wide variety of 4G LTE devices. Expanded and newmarkets are in upstate New York, South Dakota, Tennese, Texas and Arkansas.

Signals Show Better AT&T LTE in Houston with Verizon Better VPIs Elsewhere

A new Signals Research study showed just how efficient wireless networks are and how the best speeds are achieved. Sometimes DC-HSDPA  offered better download speeds than 4G LTE.  However, the upload speeds for 4G LTE could not be beat.

The report found that all technologies performed as expected and as advertised by the operators. They did notice faster 4G LTE speeds in the Houston which could be due to it being a new network with fewer customers.  The chipset of the phone, modem or tablet does effect speeds.

Verizon 4G LTE Verizon Wireless is adding five new metros to its 4G LTE network, today.  This will bring the total served by the network to 200 million in 195 markets.  These metros launch along with the new LG Spectrum (HD) and new customers will have a choice of many 4G LTE options.

Verizon has a new sweet deal for new network until January 26,  a free HTC ThunderBolt with a new line activation and 50% extended battery.  Well-reviewed 4G LTE models also include the Droid RAZR and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The  New Metros are:

  • Glens Falls and Utica, New York.
  • Lawton, Oklahoma.
  •  Brownsville and McAllen, Texas.
  • Verizon Wireless is also expanding its network in Atlanta, Houston and Spokane, Washington.

Attention note-takers, there was a notable tablet-phone announced at CES during the AT&T Developer Summit, the Samsung Galaxy Note with writing recognition for the S-Pen. This superphone was noted as one of the reasons for Samsung's success.

The Samsung Galaxy Note will connect to the new AT&T 4G LTE network, runs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor come sin blue or white.  The Samsung Galaxy Note  has a 5.3” Super AMOLED touchscreen with 180 degree viewing angle.

Features include, Android 2.3, Gingerbread, 16GB onboard memory, microSD card slot, 2500 mAh battery, 8MP camera, 2MP front facing camera,  Mobile HotSpot capable, built-in pen holder and  Samsung Approved for Enterprise security.

The Samsung Galaxy Note  has the S Memo app to capture all forms of user-created content captured by the S Pen. Pictures, voice recordings, typed text, handwritten notes or drawings can all be converted to a ‘memo’ and shared.

A release date and price have not been announced, yet.

LG SpectrumRecent leaks, suggest the next superphone powerhouse coming from the Verizon Wireless network will be the LG Spectrum.  The Galaxy Nexus has been the top dog on Verizon since December 15 and is backordered on Amazon.com where it was the top seller in December.  What can you expect from the LG Spectrum? Will it be worth the wait?

The LG Spectrum has a 4.5 HD IPS touchscreen with 329ppi, a  smidge smaller than the Nexus.  The most regrettable feature is that it will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread not Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.  The difference in battery size is minimal.  The leaked release date is January 19.

As the contest for the best speakerphones heats up choices are greater and more subjective.  After the specs, we suggest you look at the user-experience and if it meets your needs.
