It's a very Droid day, the Droid Bionic will go on sale at midnight tonight, the Droid Incredible is getting an update and roaming traveling Droid 2 Global owners will be getting an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread with better battery life and world connectivity.
Verizon typically rolls out updates over time. It will take approximately 30 to 60 minutes to download the software. Once you download the software, the next step is to install it. Installation should take up to 5-10 minutes additional. Keep in mind that during the installation you will be unable to make or receive calls, including emergency calls. It's always a good idea to backup your data first and make sure your Droid is at least 40% charged before doing update.
To check for the update from the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System Updates > Download.
The list of features in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update are impressive, with the addition of download manager, active app management, shortcuts, one-touch copy/paste, widgets, icons, app groups, updated calendar options, camera geotagging, improved email synching, and camera auto-focus improvements. The update includes new Active sync support for data encryption for memory and HTML email
Improvements include:
