Droid 4 Pulls Battery Controversy?

Droid 4Ever since, we saw the leaked manual for the Droid 4 and published tips, we've let our readers know that the Droid 4 like the Droid RAZR does not have a removable battery. The iPhone battery has never been removable and iPhoneaholics live with the fact quite nicely. However, some Droid 4 reviewers  are lambasting the Droid 4 for its battery.

In order to make thinner and lighter smartphones the battery is embedded into the circuitry. One reviewer ranted "Motorola messed-up forgoing battery for meaningless reduction in thickness." He noted that the Droid 3 is 12.9mm thick where the Droid 4 is 12.7mm thick.

There  is about a 1.9mm difference between the Droid RAZR MAXX and Droid RAZR while the Droid RAZR MAXX more than doubles the amount time you can use the battery.  Maybe, Motorola will offer a Droid 4 MAXX with an enhanced battery,  some day.

The Droid 4 and iPhone 4S share a non-removable battery when compared by Alex Colon, he noted that with technical specs similar the 4G LTE network speed of the Droid 4 is its best feature as well as the keyboard. The iPhone has more apps.

iFixit has a way around the non-removable battery. Even though the sticker warns user not to remove it, it is glued and held on with T5 Torx screws that can be removed with a spudger.  The glue is so strong that you could accidentally bend the battery too much (that could make it y ignite) if you try taking it apart with just your fingers, iFixit reported.

Another way to go,  could be is to buy an external backup battery that lets you charge the Droid 4 when  no electrical outlets are available.

DIY types are hoping that there will be  third-party battery they could fit the Droid 4.  One forum member noted that there is a YouTube Video that shows how someone adapted a Droid RAZR MAXX battery for a Droid RAZR.  We don't expect the warranty to be valid if you tear out Droid 4 and adapt it with another battery.

Another battery option is to get a  “inductive” or wireless charging cover for it that way you can charge it wirelessly.

The wireless industry is changing and sometimes people don't like it when you can't change the battery.

The Droid 4 went on sale on Friday and is eligible for the Verizon double data deal. we published some tricks  and videos that will help you use your Droid 4.

The Droid 4 has been called the fastest QWERTY 4G LTE smartphone around.  When you can buy it from Verizon Wireless for $199.99.  Amazon.com still has some in stock discounted to $99.99 for new customers and $149.99 for renewing contracts.

Note that since you can't remove the battery, you can do a forced reboot, press and hold both Power and the down volume key for up to 10 seconds.
