Even though the Nexus 7 has some quality issues it is a success in the selling department with a gray market on eBay with some models priced for as much as $100 over MSRP.
The 8GB Nexus 7 was reportedly sold out from the Google Play store in the U.K. Meanwhile, online, Walmart has the 16B model in stock for 249.99 with options to of ship to store or 97 cent shipping BUY which should include the $25 Play store credit. Office Depot shows the 8GB as "Coming Soon" and 16GB as "Temporarily out of stock, check back soon."
Just in case, we checked the U.S. Play store which showed that the 8GB is in stock and will be delivered in 3 to 5 business days, shipping and tax calculated at checkout. The Walmart 97-cents shipping appears to be a better deal.
The Nexus 7 does not have a microSD slot therefore the 8GB could fill up quickly. Be aware that Google is allowing those with faulty hardware to return their Nexus' for new ones to the Play store. Returns must be made to retailer it was purchased from.
SquareTrade is giving away a free Nexus 7. Since SqaureTrade is in the device insurance business, they made a video that shows what happens when it is dropped on the pavement and in bathtub.
When dropped on the pavement the Nexus 7's glass survived with some scuffs on the case while the iPad glass broke. The iPad fell on its corner and cracked the corner glass. In the rub a dub dub in the tub test, while showing a video, the iPad lost sound while th Nexus 7 did not lose sound.
A Nexus 7 video shows how the touchscreen is out of touch when playing Tegra 3 games on a 16GB model. It's a mix of screen freeze and no touch response in a top area of the screen in landscape mode. It does not have problems with non-multi-touch games/apps. Since the problem only occurs in some games, it could be a software problem, not a hardware problem. Some contend that it is a heat issue with the Tegra 3 chipset, because the affected area is over the chip.
We do not understand this phenomena with tablets and marriage proposals. Someone proposed on the BackBerry PlayBook and from a huge Windows Phone in Times Square. Now the Nexus 7 appears to be more romantic than the iPad. Googler R+Raj Hathiramani gave a Nexus 7 to his girlfriend Aditi Gupta, packed with all her favorite apps which contained a proposal video with hearts from friends.
We're sure Ms. Gupta did not notice the touchscreen issue and was touched because she said yes. (video appears below.)
apparently the glass of the thing you are selling here when it dropped didn't break. that's a good news. next time when i need to trow a tablet in the tub i'll consider it. i'm sure
