Top Best Tablets: Asus Transformer Prime, TouchPad, Kindle Fire, iPad & PlayBook?

Kindle Fire HDWe've thought it would ask he interesting to see what happened to the top best tablets of last year and how they are faring.  If you don't mind a year-old model, you can get some great deals. in

Last year, the Asus Transformer Prime was a very short supply.  When the tablet with matching keyboard that turned it into a notebook computer would go on sale it would sell out quickly. Only a few lucky customers were able to get the coveted tablet in time for Christmas.

The original retail price was originally $499.99 for the Asus Tansformer Prime.  The earlier Asus EeePad Transform Tablet 16GB, pre-owned is $139.99 at CowBoom and the 32 GB Transformer Prime tablet starts at  $209.99  which is  fully functional .  Holiday10 gets 10% off the order at CowBoom.

The iPad 2 32GB that was a good seller last year is going for $599.99 is selling at CowBoom for $299.99.

The BlackBerry PlayBook  16GB that was reduced to as low as $199 for Black Friday 2011  is selling for $113.99 at CowBoom.

The Verizon Motorola Xoom is still on the list to be updated to Android Jelly Bean.  The Verizon model sold-out over Black Friday for $199.99 with a contract.  CowBoom is out of the Verizon Xoom while the Wi-Fi Xoom is starting at $198.99.

The most gifted tablet the Kindle Fire which originally sold for $199.99 news can be bought in a ne incarnation for Amazon for $159.99. For $199 you can get the Kindle Fire HD.

An then there was the best deal of all time the HP TouchPad, which we called the ImmortaPad because it kept coming back to life in different deals. It was the first time that a 10 inch tablet went for $99.  We saw some refurbished models for a while surface. Buy.com has the 32GB HP TouchPad for $199.  We've heard stories of the few that were able to buy the HP Touchpad for only $99 re-gifting them to friends, who then gave them to parents, kids or whoever needed a tablet and didn't have one. Employees took the day off to buy the TouchPad which brought servers down.

It's still hard to find a great $99 10" tablet because they cost well over $200 to make.

So what have we learned from all of this price watching one year later? Many of the tablets when purchased at full price have gone down 50% in value.  If you buy a tablet, use it.   The price of tablets goes down as fast as cars, once you decide to keep it, its an investment that depreciates over time.

  1. I love my HP TouchPad, I don't have to worry about dropping it or losing it. It does everything I need it to do. All 10" tablets should be $99.

  2. You can't think about price when you buy any Apple product. It just does what it is supposed to do.

  3. You should recycle right away, when it worth more. Otherwise it ends up in the landfill.
