Andy Android Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich UpdatesMotorola revealed some more details about the future updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for the many of its popular smartphones and tablets.

We suspected that Motorola would be very Android-update friendly after Google bought it and there many-a-update planned for rolling out in the future.  When we say future we don't mean near future, we mean next quarter and even mid summer.

Motorola cautioned that their timing is Motorola Mobility's best estimate and contingent on successful completion of testing.

However, Motorola was nice enough to list the current status and time frame for the following:

  • Motorola Xoom Family Edition - Android 4.0 ICS update will begin rolling out in the second quarter of 2012.
  • Motorola Atrix 2 - Android 4.0 ICS update will begin rolling out in the third quarter of 2012.
  • Motorola Atrix 4G - Android 4.0 ICS update will begin rolling out in the third quarter of 2012.
  • Motorola Photon 4G -  Android 4.0 ICS update will begin rolling out in the third quarter of 2012
  • Motorola Xyboard 8.2/10.1 - Android 4.0 ICS update in evaluation and planning more details will be forthcoming later.

Motorola announced in October that "We'll be releasing devices for ICS 6 weeks after Google releases the final version of it."

Whoops, it looks like its more than six weeks from when they received the core.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich combines tablet and smartphone functions and adds advanced features to Android such as face unlock, multitasking and NFC(see all features).

The latest Motorola releases are the Droid 4, Droid RAZR in new colors and Droid RAZR MAXX as well as a star-spangled Oscar Droid RAXR MAXX.

The Red Carpet Edition Droid RAZR  MAXX isn't the only designer limited edition, a leaked photo showed a Droid RAZR limited Editon for Verizon Wireless employees.

Verizon Wireless  is offering a buy one get one free deal for the Droid RAZR MAXX that is enhanced by a double data deal.

The Droid RAZR MAXX battery was rated 4.5 out 5 and is an award-worthy battery according to reviews.  The Droid RAZR appears in many top ten best smartphones of 2011 lists, including the top ten of all and Verizon Wireless lists.

    • Please watch the listing, we are talking 3G/Wi-Fi Xoom.

The Wi-Fi Xoom already has ICS, not the Verizon version that went on sale on Black Friday for $199.99 which many of our readers bought.

  1. Yea I have the Verizon xoom and it just makes me not want to ever go with motorola ever again cuz the wifi xoom got it over a month ago while my xoom doesn't even have a release date, but the family/media version AND the xoom 2 do? It makes it hard to even use my xoom cuz I'm so pi**ed off, knowing that ICS works fine on here so at the very least I should have a release date. Thanks moto, thanks Verizon, way to keep your loyal customers happy and educated.
