One of the signs of an update coming soon from Motorola for the Droid RAZR and similar software devices isa "soak test" sent out to the Motorola Feedback Network through the Motorola Forum.
After soak testing, then the software upgrade is closer to receiving the update from the carrier, Verizon Wireless.
Today, the Motorola RAZR forum manager Matt announced:
"Looks like we got a surprise people. This regular soak test has now turned into an official soak test for Android 4.0 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Please subscribe to this feed for updates and more information will be posted as soon as possible.
If we use previous soak tests to actual release date time tables, the release date of the update could be out within a month or so. Leaked versions of the update appear within a few days of the soak test which we do not recommend you try unless you are a power user. Most likely the software update will be for the Droid RAZR, RAZR MAXX and Droid 4.
Matt also informed a forum member who heard that invites to the soak test were being sent out, that it was "Pure rumor based on what I would call really lazy reporting by some tech sites."
On Friday, Verizon Wireless confirmed to Wimonews that they were not pushing out the update over the weekend.
Verizon announced in March Android 4.0 ICS updates for its smartphones and tablets. Many of the soon-to-be updated phone appear on our best of 2012 list for the first quarter of this year.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich adds some features such as Android Beam, Face Unlock, a new UI and improved camera (see all features and video).
HTC confirmed in March that the HTC Rezound would be getting an update to Android 4.0 but did not announce when.
